The Domino's restaurant in New Haven, Indiana had two aging rooftop air conditioning units that had both died. Schroyer, Inc. replaced them with a brand new commercial AC unit from York. Though this is a small building, it needed a powerful industrial-grade system, rather than the smaller residential units that we have used for some of the other small businesses that we have worked with. The pizza oven generates intense heat inside the restaurant, requiring a more powerful AC system to keep it cool and comfortable for the staff and customers.

Commercial AC units are too big to carry up a ladder. We needed a crane for this job! We contracted with Creative Sign Resources in Fort Wayne to have them send a couple of their men and one of their crane-trucks to bring the old units down and lift the new one up to the roof.

One of the riggers from CSR hooks the crane to the straps on one of the old AC units while Don Schroyer points out where he wants them to set it down.

Lifting the first of the old units off the roof.

This old one looks pretty beaten up. It is secured to the lifting straps with steel clevices.

Rigging up the second of the two old AC units for removal.

Lifting up the new unit. One of the men from CSR steadies it from below while Don Schroyer grabs on to it from above to keep it from swinging into the side of the building. It will sit on the thick wooden beams when it is installed.

Almost there!

The new AC unit, ready to be installed.

You can't put a forklift on the roof of a small building, so we lift the ends of the new AC unit with a pry-bar so that the wooden supports can be slid into place under it. The rollers made it easy to move into the final position.
